Gershwin on Guitar in the U.S

Andreas Pettersson Quartet just back after successful concerts in the USA.
Andreas Pettersson Quartet with Daniel Tilling,Daniel Fredriksson and Martin Sjöstedt was a big hit at the Rochester Jazz festival on june 15th. The quartet performed music from the new CD "Gershwin on Guitar" to a sellout crowd and received two standing rooms.

"Earlier in the evening, I caught the quartet of Swedish guitarist Andreas Petterson at the Lutheran Church. Petterson, an absolutely astounding player, concentrated on tunes from his new album that explores the music of George Gershwin.

Watching the fingers of Petterson’s left hand fly over the neck of the guitar was reminiscent of watching a spider madly scurrying to get out of harm's way. But this spider had impeccable taste when it came to concocting melodies. Every dizzying solo fit beautifully over the chords.

On tunes like “Summertime” and “Strike Up The Band” Petterson shared the solo spotlight with pianist Daniel Tilling, who proved to be equally dexterous and tasteful.

Later at the Crowne Plaza, when Bob Sneider’s trio took a break, Petterson’s quartet kept the overflow crowd entertained with a terrific blues tune."

The Andreas Pettersson Quartet also performed on june 16-17th at the Jazz Museum in Kansas City where they invited two good friends to perform with them. Drummer Ronnie Gardiner and Kansas City vocalist Deborah Brown.

"My major treat of the weekend was at the Blue Room. Kansas City native vocalist Deborah Brown has moved back home after several years living in Europe and touring some 50 countries throughout the world. With Deborah was the outstanding Andreas Pettersson Quartet from Sweden. Joining Andreas, a totally “out of sight” guitarist, was Daniel Tilling on piano, Martin Sjostedt on bass and drummer Daniel Fredricksson. Also, sitting in on drums was Ronnie Gardiner, developer of a rhythm therapy for stroke victims. Just in from the Rochester Jazz Festival, the Quartet kicked it off with It Ain’t Necessarily So from Porgy and Bess from their CD Gershwin on Guitar. After The Man I Love and Strike Up the Band, Deborah came on stage and brought us all home with her fantastic scatting on Kansas City. She then soothed us out with You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To and Body and Soul. They finished the set with That’s All – one of my favorites. During the break Andreas and I were talking about how we both like acoustic instruments and the classical influence in jazz. Well, guess what? Andreas started the second set on the acoustic guitar playing three recently discovered preludes written by Gershwin. I was in heaven."
